Orthotics:  Brisbane Podiatry Clinic.

At Walk Without Pain ! we use a variety of foot orthotics to eliminate your foot pain.

Fully Functional Orthotic Devices

For full potency orthotic devices needed for severe foot pain, we use computer aided design and manufacture technology. The outcome is a smaller orthotic device with more space saving options. It also means that bounciness can be built into the plate resulting in in-built shock absorption for improved comfort.

As these arch supports are custom made orthotics, they exactly address your foot injuries. They are the most potent but also the most costly of the orthotic options. This kind of orthotic is powerful enough to address complex problems such as plantar fasciitis, bunions, heel pain, arch pain, heel spurs, hallux limitus, knee pain, patellofemoral pain, chondromalacia patella, Iliotibial band, ITB, trochanteric bursitis and lower back pain.

Do you want to know some technical stuff?

Your foot contours are scanned electronically to create a perfectly accurate 3D computer model of your foot. The imperfections that have caused your problems are corrected  virtually  using this topographical scan. This then gives us a ‘virtual perfect foot’ to work with that is aligned how your foot would be if it was structurally perfect.

The orthotic device that we make will support your foot in your perfect position while still allowing some normal movements required to walk. Well designed CAD-CAM orthotics / computer designed orthotics can impart a range of benefits. The most important reason we choose to use this method to make our functional orthotics is that CAD-CAM orthotics are routed out of a block of polypropylene plastic rather than formed from sheets of the same material. This means that instead of choosing between 4 mm thickness or 5 mm thickness, your shoe insert can be customised to give you exactly the level of support you require – no more and no less.

Some cheaper orthotic options:

Our clinics offers three less expensive orthotic options if cost is an important factor.

[1] The Component Orthotic: Prefabricated orthotic components are chosen and combined to bring about the best possible fit short of being custom made. The advantages are that they are cheaper and quicker to construct. The disadvantage is that it results in a fairly chunky orthotic not suitable for feminine shoes. We can t alter this plate thickness to provide shock absorption as is possible in a CAD-CAM routed device.

[2] The Foot Library Orthotic :  Using fourteen measured variables, the feet closest to yours are chosen from an extensive foot library comprised of more than 6,000 collected foot casts. Custom made devices are created from these foot casts.

The Advantages:  These orthotics are cheaper than the fully customised options. All of the variables such as orthotic width, thickness, flexibility, etc are prescribed to best correct your feet by our podiatrists.

The Disadvantages:  These orthotics are not as specific to you as plaster casting of your feet would allow us to achieve.

[3] Copythotic™:  We can supply another variety of Cheaper Orthotics
. The third less expensive option is our patented (pending) Copythotic™ technique which reinterprets your existing orthotic device to create a totally new orthotic.

Most of the information we need about you has already been captured in your orthotic device.  We don’t have to do this work again, so creating a Copythotic™ can be up to 60% cheaper than your original orthotic devices were.  We can work with orthotics that were made by other podiatrists and we can modify the orthotic to some degree to correct problems with the original device.

The original orthotic foot supports are returned unharmed. As a Copythotic™ is literally a copy of your orthotic, to use this option, you will have to have an existing orthotic device that can be brought to our podiatry clinic Brisbane. More can be learned at Orthotics Brisbane where the process of creating a Copythotic is discussed more fully.

Softer orthotic options: Again, this is where Copythotic™ technology shines:  Copythotics can literally an be as hard or as soft as you require.

A Copythotic™ is made from a broad selection of orthotic materials and in combining these in different ways, they can be made anywhere on the firmness continuum. We have found that around 40% of our patients choose to get Softer orthotics (Copythotics) because their previous orthotic devices have been uncomfortably hard.

We can work with orthotics that made by other podiatrists and we can modify the orthotic to a moderate extent to correct failures in your original device. More information can be found at Orthotics Brisbane where the orthotic making process is described more fully.

 Smaller orthotic options:

Copythotic™: Copythotics can be crafted to be literally any size we want. Any orthotic that you have can be reinterpreted to fit into 95% of shoe possibilities. Some options will reduce the effectiveness of the orthotic devices and individual podiatry assessment is necessary.

We have found that approximately 60% of our clients choose to use Copythotics because their original devices don’t fit into their desired or existing footwear. We can utilize foot supports made by other podiatry practitioners and can alter the orthotic to some degree to correct failures in the original device. More can be learned at the website: Arch Supports Brisbane or Smaller Orthotics not bigger Orthotic Footwear

 Simple insoles:

Lesser orthotic options including custom made padded insoles. Our podiatry clinics still make traditional padded insoles which can be extremely useful for relieving pressure areas, reducing corns and treating milder mechanical conditions.

Copythotics™

What is a Copythotic™?

Envisage cutting a 1 mm slice from your existing orthotics that took off just its top surface.  Now imagine that thin layer resting in your shoe.  It’s going to fit in a lot  more shoes,  taking up a lot  less room. There is some empty space sitting under the arch and once this is filled in using high tech foam material, you have a Copythotic™.

There is a lot to know about Copythotics.  So much in fact, they have got their own website.  Read on here for more general information or click any of the links below to answer specific questions:

The Copythotic™ was created through a collaboration by Stephanie Cosgrove Podiatry Clinics and the Walk Without Pain Orthotic and Podiatry Clinic group. International interest is already building in this humble Brisbane invention.

Why did we invent the Copythotic™?

After practicing podiatry for over twenty years, it became apparent that “sensible but comfortable” shoes did not always triumph over the stylish but crippling  kind. When it comes to choosing shoes, we understand that there are many factors that are important.

Despite what your own podiatrist has said in the past (and what I’ve told my clients all those years), the key components of an orthotic device that has been designed for you will actually fit into your existing footwear.  All it takes is some refining. Using the Copythotic™ process for our patients over recent years, we have found that an orthotic shoe insert that will fit most of the footwear that most women find acceptable most of the time, will deliver on average around 80% of the original device s potency. And that makes our patients more than mostly happy!

Why might you want some Copythotics?

There are many good reasons why you might want a second pair of orthotics.  Perhaps you would like:

a big, cushy pair for your runners so that they won t slip around,

a tiny pair for your sleeker shoes,

a new orthotic to replace the ones your dog chewed up,
